From Hot Mess to Heavenly Masterpiece!

As fall and winter seasons approach, I love to bring out all the holiday recipe books! This time of year I stock up on all the baking staples such as flour, sugar, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice and cream cheese.  Have you ever wondered how all of these items placed in a bowl, combined together by a couple of metal beaters can make such a tasty and beautiful creation?

Think about a cake for example. You place flour, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, baking powder, salt and a flavor additive such as pumpkin or cocoa in a bowl.  When all of that is mixed together, it just looks like a big fat mess.  But then you put it in the oven and somehow the messy mixture together with the heat of the oven creates this masterpiece!  Amazing!

As hard as it is to imagine while we are going through rough times and the heat of this life, God is creating us into beautiful masterpieces.

When baking a cake, it won’t turn out right if the temperature is incorrect – just like our creation as a person. Sometimes we look at our trials and wonder why we have to go through so much heat.  But no matter what our temperature of trials, God will use it to make us the perfect Masterpiece He created.

His recipe for you includes different ingredients in life than for me. Neither are better or worse.  They are just the recipe that mixed all together makes us the unique creation we were designed to be.  And my friend, you look amazing!

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.

The Unity Wall.

As I entered the store with wall-to-wall people,  I was prepared to scan the merchandise and get out before claustrophobia overtook me.   It was a very unique store with a very intriguing name.

Philanthropy Fashions greeted me with earthy décor and colors including wadded paper bags used in the most adorable advertising.  Antique shoes held shelves of books.  Old suitcases cuddled comfy sweaters and tree branches adorned hanging scarves.  It was just adorable and relaxing all at the same time!

Then I heard it….Christian music.

Then I felt it….the peace throughout the store.

Then I understood it….PHILANTHROPY FASHIONS.  The store was a faith-based organization that gives 10% of its proceeds to non-profit organizations domestically and internationally.

Then I saw it.

Right there in the middle of the most crowded store on the strip was the wall that warmed my heart and opened the floodgate of tears all at the same time.

The prayer wall.  Yes, a wall full of hanging tags of prayer requests.  The guests were encouraged to leave a prayer request on a tag and to take a request from the wall and commit to pray.

The prayer wall.  To me, it was a unity wall.  The symbol that brings us all together – hurt and hope and healing.  All right there for us to unite under one God – the one and ONLY God.

The wall that says we are still one nation – actually one big ole world – under God.  The wall that reminds me to stand firm on my foundation and kneel only in prayer to the One who can heal our nation.

The Unity Wall.  The Prayer Wall.  The Wall that can knock down all other walls.  In Jesus Name.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Don’t Be So Bossy!

Today is National Boss’s Day.

On this day, I naturally think of those who play the role of supervisor at work as “bosses”.  The beautiful ladies I supervise ( but who require no supervision because they are so wonderful) sent me a bouquet of my favorite flowers – gerber daisies- for Boss’s Day a few days early.

Sometimes it’s good to be a boss.  Especially when you have good people for whom you are the boss.
Sometimes it’s awful to be the boss when correction or dismissal is required.
Some people think they are your boss, but they’re not.
Some people act like they are the boss of everything and want people to obey.
And some people need to be the boss but don’t know how.

Since today is also Make A Difference Monday, I want to give you (and me) a great big challenge.  Let’s let those people who are the boss, think they are the boss, or want to be the boss have a day of no back-talk.

Today let’s just smile and say, “yes, sir” and “thank you, ma’am”.  Today let’s just give a pat on the back or a word of encouragement to those who have the “wanna be” mentality.  Just for today let’s put Romans 12:18 into action:  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

That doesn’t mean do everything they say that is illegal or immoral but just for today, don’t talk smack about those in authority.  Just smile and as far it depends on us, just for this one day for starters, live at peace with everyone.

Oh…..and for you bosses out there, Happy Boss’s Day.  And one more thing – appreciate your employees and don’t be so bossy all the time!  🙂

Hello, Chaos Calling!

Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor.
It’s off to the races everybody out the door.
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life.

Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can.
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand.
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life.

It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say

Just breathe, just breathe.
Come and rest at my feet.
And be, just be.
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe.

What wonderful words from the song, Just Breathe by Jonny Diaz.  This is just the first part of the song where the pace of the song is ramping up, music getting louder and pounding of piano getting harder.  As you listen to the song you feel that all-too familiar heart-racing feeling of going ninety miles an hour exactly as he describes.

And then he gets to the chorus and there is no fast or hard pounding and no hurried feeling.  But rather just a soft piano with a whisper of a voice and you can almost physically feel your body melt into the “Calgon take me away” mode of peace.

That’s Jesus.  That’s Peace.  Our days are chaotic.  Our feet hit the floor running.  We go ninety miles an hour.  But if we can just breathe.  Deeply.  And rest at His feet for 10 minutes before we get the call from Mr. Chaos, I promise the day will feel much smoother.

Try it today.  When chaos calls, politely hang up and just breathe!
