The Light That Can Save Your Life.

I love to get up early and have my quiet time before the race of the day begins.  When I get up it’s still dark outside most days of the year.  I immediately grab my cell phone and turn on the flashlight feature to help guide my way.

Before cell phones we always had flashlights and candles handy if the power went out during a storm and a small flashlight by the bed for the bathroom journeys in the middle of the night.

We take this light feature for granted that when we flip on our cell phone there will automatically be light to guide our path.  Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.”

I learned this verse in Bible school when I was in elementary school.  We sang the song and said the pledge.  I’ve heard sermons on this verse and read devotions about it.  I’ve even used this verse in previous writings I have done.  But for some reason, today, it really hit me.

I need that flashlight each morning to show me what path to take so that I don’t run into a wall or furniture as I head from one spot to the next until I can turn on the overhead light.  Without that light, I would stumble.  This verse says “your word” is a light for my path.  The Bible.  The path of my every day life.  Without the words of the Bible – the light for my path –  I will stumble.

It’s silly to try and find our way in the dark when we have a flashlight at our fingertips.  So why in the world would we try to find our way through this dark world, take a chance at continuing to stumble when we have the light of the Word at our fingertips?!

I encourage you today to open your Bible, ask God to lead you to the exact verses that will help light your path today so that you can walk in His light and not stumble over the things in your path.  A few minutes in The Word to light the path is better than stumbling through the dark of the day and injuring something or someone very precious to us.

Hope your day is filled with light and the Joy of the Lord!

Keep Movin’!

Doctors tell those with fibromyalgia to “keep movin'”.
Fitness instructors say the most important thing to stay fit is to just “keep movin'”.
Step trackers buzz an annoying alarm when you have sat too long and remind you to “keep movin'”.
Event workers yell to crowds of people entering the concert to “keep movin'”.

What if I don’t want to keep movin’?  What if I want to just sit and sulk a bit?  What if I am tired – both physically and mentally?  What if I think I just can’t live this life one more day?

Well Toby Mac’s latest song, Keep Walkin’ has a few answers for us.

Another heartbreak day
Feels like you’re miles away
Don’t even need no shade
When your sun don’t shine, shine

Too many passin’ dreams
Roll by like limousines
It’s hard to keep believin’
When they pass you by and by

I know your heart been broke again
I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet
I know you’re feeling like you got nothing left
Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet so

Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes
Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet

Echoin’ inside your head
Are the words that your sweet momma said
“Shoot for the moon, my dear”
So you took aim out of this atmosphere
Between high stakes and pump fakes
You’re feelin’ like you can’t buy a break
I can hold your hand, but I can’t turn your eyes to freedom

I know your heart been broke again
I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet
I know you’re feeling like you got nothing left
Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet so

Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes
Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet

Hold on, hold on Lord ain’t finished yet
Hold on, hold on He’ll get you through this
Hold on, hold on These are the promises
I never will forget I never will forget, so

I know your heart been broke again
I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet
But it ain’t over yet, it ain’t over yet

So get up and move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes
Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet

We all need to keep movin’ for the Lord even when we don’t want to or think we can’t.  He’s got a plan.  He’s not finished with us yet.  When we think we just can’t take one more step or we can’t force ourselves to get out of bed today or we can’t dare to face the hurt of what the day may hold, just know that God’s holding your hand and will get you through this.  Come on.  Let’s help each other…let’s keep movin’ one step at a time.

Stay In Your Own Lane!

The runners are set on their starting blocks.
Hands strategically placed on the asphalt.
Finish line only 100 short yards ahead.

There is no need to remind them to stay in their own lane.  It’s an unwritten rule.  No one would think about veering from their own lane into another lane… would they?

Of course not!  And we shouldn’t either.

I just came home from an awesome speaker and writer conference in North Caroline where there were over 800 women soaking in information like sponges.  Most were striving to become better speakers or writers; some with pounding hearts and sweaty palms hoping to get a nod from a publisher; others seeking diligently for God’s clear direction.

I admit I was a little intimidated.  I would hear stories of women who were speaking across the country; women who were being published in Christian magazines; women who were a part of speaking bureaus and my mind began to drift.  “I want to be like that woman.”  “I want to jet set across the country to speak to groups like she did.”  “I want to write exactly like she does.”

And then the Lord gently nudged me and said STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE.  He reminded me that He called me to do what He called me to do.  And He called those ladies to do what He called them to do.  We can’t scoot over into someone else’s lane or we are disqualified.  We can’t run their race.

So today, I vow to stay in my own lane.  Elbow the devil out of my lane.  Stay MY course and not worry about comparing myself to others.  God has called me to do what I do and as I grow in my writing and my speaking, He will clear the path in my own lane and help me run the race I’m called to run.

Have you lost sight of your own race?  Are you scooting over into someone else’s lane?  Refocus.  Get set on your own starting blocks.  Run your own race.  Make a difference in your own lane.  Get ready….set…..go.

U R More.

On the interstate yesterday, we passed this car several times and I just had to have my friend take a picture of this license plate.  It said “URMORE”.

It reminded me of Tenth Avenue North song with the same title.

A lot of times we define ourselves by the mistakes we’ve made or even the successes we have in our lives.  We may continue to tell ourselves:
“I’m not worthy because I did” ….
“I’m no good to anyone because someone did [such and such] to me.”
“No one will ever love me because…….”
“I’ve messed up too many times to………”

Or we go to the other extreme out of fear.
“I’ve worked to hard to get to the top and ain’t nobody gonna tell me what to do.”
“Look at all that I have.  I’m not going to share it with anyone.”
“I’m better than the person………..”

Jesus tells us that we are more than any of that.

A few of the words in Tenth Avenue North’s song are:

You are more than the choices that you’ve made.
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes.
You are more than problems you create.
You’ve been remade.

I say to you that you are more than your past hurts, mistakes or failures.  You are more than your future accomplishments.  You are more than who the devil says you are.  You are more than that habit that keeps plaguing you.

You are a child of The King (and I’m not talking about Elvis here.  🙂 )  You are created by God to be YOU, uniquely YOU and He wants you to follow Him.  Don’t follow the lies the devil or the world tells you.  You are more than any habit, any sin, anything in this world.  You are a child of the One who created it all; who knows all; who sees all; who leads all.

U R MORE!
