Black Friday.
Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesday.
Wacky Wednesday.

What day is it?  It’s so funny how certain non-holiday days take on national significance.  People talk about “Black Friday” like it’s another holiday.  How dare people mess with the biggest shopping day of the year!  News crews are out on the scene of every big mall and every crazy WalMart at the opening of the doors to see how many people are waiting in line to get into certain stores and wait again to purchase certain items.

There seems to be an unwritten badge of honor associated with the person who was in line the earliest, waited the longest, and got the last of the most popular item from the shelves.  It’s not as bad in the Black Friday shopping world now that the retail stores have crept their way into Thankful Thursday.  Black Friday has now become “early bird Thursday” and “sales carried over Saturday”.

Cyber Monday used to be the day that you waited until the clock on your computer ticked to midnight and then everyone crashed the websites to get the best online deals in history!  Amazon braced itself with extra workers and hundreds of tons of boxes for next day delivery from orders placed on Cyber Monday.  But I noticed that the “Cyber Monday sales” have also crept into the Black Friday days and is now extended to “take it all Tuesdays” where the retailers feel sorry for those who didn’t have a chance to take advantage of Cyber Monday sales so they extend it to “we feel sorry for you Wednesday”.

And somehow Giving Tuesday gets lost in the shuffle between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and “hit the road running” Friday shopping.  But today is a special day of giving.  It’s a day nationally known to give to those non-profit organizations that depend on donors like you and me to make a difference to others.

Galatians 6:9 says “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”   Keep doing good.  Keep giving to help others.

All kinds of non-profits will seek your support today.  I hope you will consider donating to a cause that is close to your heart.  Bucket Buddies Mission would love to have your support if you are looking to donate to a cause that strives to make a difference to children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.  You can donate to this cause and read more about our non-profit created in memory of my sister at BucketBuddiesMission.org.

No matter what day it is, it’s always “good to give to others” day.  Happy Giving Tuesday!!
