Is It Time To Move On?

Congratulations to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos!

All who know me, know that I am a HUGE Peyton Manning fan.  I have cheered for him his whole career starting with the Indianapolis Colts and then moving to the Denver Broncos.  I am a Colts fan first, but I am a Manning Fan overall.  My favorite color is orange so adding the Broncos to my top NFL teams to cheer for was an easy decision when Peyton moved there.

I don’t know if Sunday was the last time he will play professional football or not.  It sure does seem like a fairy tale ending if he decides to move on to other things outside of playing the game of football.  He goes out on top – with class – being a part of a team win and finishing the job he was hired to do – win Denver another Super Bowl championship.

Our lives can be somewhat the same way.  God calls us to do certain things; to be certain places and complete certain plans.  And after a while, we feel God tap us on the shoulder and say “well done; it’s time to move on.”  We get comfortable where we are.  We are enjoying the routine.  It’s become easy for us.  But God may say, “your work here is done.  I need you over there.”

Will we be like Jonah and run from God and resist going where He wants us to go?
Will it require something as large as a whale to swallow us up and then spew us back out to get our attention?

What is God calling you to do today?  Is it time to start something new? Is it time to finish what you’ve begun?  Is it time to move on to a different area and use your talents and time in a new way?

I don’t know the answer to whether Peyton will stay or move on but I do know that he completed the job he was hired to do and that was to win a Super Bowl championship. We may never do anything that big in our mind, but God uses every one of us to plant a seed and complete a purpose.  Work hard for the Lord today.  Do your best to spread His love.  There’s no greater team to be a part of than God’s team and no greater victory than heaven.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I’ve Got This!

Have you ever been with a friend and getting some popcorn at the theatre and he says, “I’ve got this.”   How nice for them to buy the popcorn for you?

Or you are getting ready to lift your groceries into the car and the bag boy says “I’ve got this” and lifts all your heavy bags of groceries into the car.  That was sweet!

Or you’re having lunch with a co-worker and the waiter brings the check and the co-worker says “I’ve got this.”  How very kind!

I will bet that your first reaction would be to say “No” and try to pay for or do it yourself.  You may try to argue that they don’t need to buy this for you or help you with your groceries because you can buy it or do it yourself.

Then you realize THEY WANT TO HELP YOU.  They are doing the act of kindness because they WANT to do it.  So you “let go” and let them have it!

That’s how we are with God.  We come upon a situation where we feel like we need to act – we need to pick up the heavy load or pay the bill for someone else or for ourselves.  But God gently places His hand on our shoulder and says “I’ve Got This!”

Our first reaction is to say  “No.  I can do it myself.”  And maybe we try and fail miserably.  But God is still waiting right there saying, “please, let me have it.  Seriously, I’ve got this.”

He’s already paid the price.  He’s already done the heavy lifting.  Just let go.  His way is better.  Seriously…..HE’S GOT THIS!

Plan A vs. Plan B

I like a plan.  I like to know where I’m going and where I will end up.  Sometimes I even ask how a movie ends to decide whether or not I’m going to waste time watching it.  I like to know the plan.

The problem with wanting to know the plan is that if the plan goes off course, it shakes me up a bit!  However, believe it or not (even with what appears to an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) I like spontaneity, too!  So if Plan A doesn’t work out, then I’m okay to go with Plan B.  I like change and improvement – but I like to know why and where we’re going with Plan B.

So you can imagine when my Plan A and my Plan B don’t go as I imagined, that I start feeling a little uneasy and then need to figure out Plan C.  But I’m learning through my Christian life that I can have a plan ALL THE WAY TO PLAN Z and if God’s plan is different, my plan doesn’t matter.

God’s plan will always win out.  No matter how I try to control it and end up messing it up.  His plan is better.  His plan is bigger.  His plan is more exciting.  His plan is the best.
Ephesians 1:11(a)  – In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.

So when you feel like things are just not going according to plan, then lay down the plan and pick up the cross!  God’s got this!!


Several years ago I used to work with a production company who produced Country Music shows.  I would drive artists and their staff to and from the hotels to the venues for their performances and do other errands requested by the production company.  When I worked those shows, I always had a VIP pass to be able to have “all access”.

I admit I was in awe of the celebrities and all that went into these productions.  It was cool to be able to be considered a VIP and have access backstage.  But after a while, I realized these people were just normal people like you and me.  I realized that I wasn’t really a VIP to those people.  I didn’t need to find my identity working backstage for a celebrity show.

I would come home to my husband and my two girls and realize I was a VIP to them no matter what I did – whether I was doing laundry, cleaning house, cooking dinner, playing Barbie® dolls or making cookies.

I realized I was already a Very Important Person (VIP) to the Almighty One.  God had already stamped me permanently with a VIP tag because I was one of His.  I would always be a VIP to Him.

So do NOT put your worth in WHO you are or HOW important you think you are.  Put your worth in WHOSE you are…….you are a VIP of the King!  All you need is a simple relationship with the One who paid the price for your eternity in heaven!  Come on backstage with Jesus……..no pass needed….you are already a VIP!!

Spring in Your Step

When I think of having a SPRING IN MY STEP, I think about feeling care-free; about not having a worry in the world.

I want to live my life with a SPRING IN MY STEP.  I want to feel care-free and not worry about the little things – or the big things in life.

Philippians 4: 4-9 sums it all up.  It could be a headline in the Bible of “GET A SPRING IN YOUR STEP!!”

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Don’t Shake After the Quake

We are coming upon the 25th Anniversary of the San Francisco earthquake on October 17.   I remember it well because our daughter was born the next morning and we watched all of the tragedy unfold while I was in labor!!

I was watching interviews with survivors of that quake last night and hearing about those who were under rubble with only a 2 foot by 2 foot section of air around them to survive.  Other survivors told of hanging from debris or their fear while being trapped in their car.  It was horrible.

Sometimes I feel like our lives are like the earth and the quakes come and tear it apart leaving us in turmoil surrounded by debris.  Like those in San Francisco that day, we are just going along at our normal pace and then WHAM a huge “earthquake” upsets every aspect of our lives – physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually.

Lucky Number 13

Today is October 13th.  I have a fun challenge for you.  I challenge you to DO or START one or more of the following 13 things today……..on the 13th:

1)  Compliment 13 people.
2)  Write down 13 things you are thankful for.
3)  Send a card or email to 13 different people – fun emails – not work emails!
4)  Exercise for 13 minutes.
5)  Take a baker’s dozen (13) of cookies to a neighbor.
6)  Pray for 13 minutes straight.
7)  Read 13 verses or 13 chapters in the Bible today.
8)  Sing for 13 straight minutes.
9)  Wave at the next 13 people you see while driving down the road.
10)  Call someone you’ve been thinking about and talk for at least 13 minutes.
11)  Throw away 13 pieces of junk mail on the counter.
12)  Set a timer for 13 minutes and organize a closet that’s been bugging you.
13)  Find 13 different names for God and Jesus in the Bible – i.e. Wonderful, Counselor, King of Kings…………now you only have 10 more!

And just for the record…….I don’t believe in Luck………..unless he wears #12 and plays for the Colts!!  Have a great 13th!!


I watched Sadie Robertson from Duck Dynasty dance on Dancing with the Stars last night.  This week on Dancing with the Stars, the theme was about something that was memorable in your life.  Sadie’s most memorable year of her life was the start of the Duck Dynasty TV show.

She shared that their lives have always been about sharing their faith in God with other people and they wanted to use the platform of the show to continue to share that faith.  She reminisced about the time that her grandfather had stated his opinion on a controversial issue and the media and the public attacked him.  The family had decided not to continue to do the show if they were not able to share their faith and how God was leading them in their lives on the show.  The family vowed to stay true to their belief in God.  As you may know, the show did continue – in true Duck Dynasty fashion.

She said her family just decided that “if you’re holding the football, you’re gonna get tackled.”  And they wanted to hold the football of faith.

What Day is Today?

It seems easy to trust God on Sundays doesn’t it?  We come from church after a moving worship time and a good word from the pastor.  It’s a day of rest and we feel peace and a closeness to God.  It’s Super Sunday!  All is well with my soul and the whole wide world and I trust God with my whole heart and I’m going to do that every day for the rest of my life!

Then we wake up to Mundane Monday.  Same ole stuff………another L-O-N-G week ahead.  The devil is sitting at the doorstep waiting for you to open the door so he can pounce on you.  The peace is fading.  God seems further away.  My soul doesn’t seem so well today.  My trust turns to worry.

What is causing you pain today?

What is it that you cannot get off your mind because you are trying to control it?  You think of ways that you can work something out so that it would be much better than it is.  I know because I do it almost every day.

But we are not in control.  When we try to control situations, we are chained to that situation and trying to manipulate the outcomes.  It overtakes our every thought and our emotions and makes us weak and depressed.

2 Corinthians 3:17(b) says “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.”

Together, let’s put down the sword of control; let it go; let God have it and quit getting in His way.  Let’s let the Spirit of the Lord take over and we can inhale and exhale………..and there is freedom!!  ahhhhhhhhhh……..sweet freedom!
