What If……

As children, and I must admit even as an adult, I sometimes dream about “what if’s”. Maybe you do as well.

Maybe your what if’s are as grandeur as living in a mansion on a beautiful hillside to as small as reorganizing your living room.

I dare say that maybe if we’re honest, we even what-if our responses in a conversation that caused relationship riffs.

Or maybe we wonder what it would be like if we all went back to the Little House on the Prairie days where we could live simpler.

Today I would like for us to think about “What if we all treated each other with kindness and love and forgave others even if they didn’t ask or deserve it.”

What?!!

I know. Even as I was typing I was asking myself that same question. I was thinking of those in higher authority that would be hard to show kindness when our views are so polar opposite.

But as Christians, we are reminded by Peter in the book of I Peter that we need to stop thinking about the what if’s of life and start implementing them!

I Peter 3:8-9 – All of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers [and sisters], be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

The words still ring true today.

I challenge us – you and me – to do just one of those today. Show patience with someone who is insulting you rather than return an insult. Be compassionate and kind to someone who is a big ole grouch.

It’s going to be hard, but we can do it. We can make our what-if’s about living in harmony come to reality. And when we do, the Lord will bless our kindness with some outstanding what-if’s of His own.     ????
