Sometimes I feel like the FedEx® guy.

Always in a hurry.

Just doing the next thing.

Dropping off the next “box of stuff”.

No connection.

Just racing through the day to get it all done.

Deliver to everyone else.

No eye contact.

Start. Get it done. Go home. Do it all over again tomorrow.

Do you ever feel like that?

You wake up, go through the day, and as you lay in bed at night, you realize you just went through the motions. Just doing what was required. Couldn’t tell anyone who you saw or frankly, the results of what you did.

The world has created this scenario of hurry, hurry, hurry, and I have fallen prey to it. How about you?

We live in this fast paced, “want it now”, microwave world that causes our insides to be tied in knots, our body to be tense and our mind to be in a state of rush all the time.

This is not healthy.

This is not sustainable.

This is not good for the soul.

I’m preachin’ to the choir here, friends. Because this is me. This is my life and honestly, I’m tired of it.

I’m tired of racing from one thing to the next.

I’m tired of doing everything for the sake of a check mark (and trust me I LOVE me some to-do list check marks)!

But life is short and we may be focusing on the wrong things.

Do we get up early to meet the work deadlines but don’t find time to read our Bibles and study our devotions?

Do we lift weights to build our physical strength but don’t see building our relationship with God as a priority?

Do we train to walk the half marathon but delay any time to walk with God?

We never know when our life will be over and although all of these physical and daily things are important, our relationship with Jesus is the most important because that’s the thing that lasts forever and ever. Yes for eternity. The choice we make to follow Jesus will lead us to heaven forever.

Today, let’s not be in such a hurry that we keep our heads down and race through the day like a FedEx driver. Instead slow down. Breathe. Take some time to get into God’s Word. Pray for guidance. And take some quality time to walk with the One who has been patiently waiting.
