As I was reading my daily devotions one day, I read Luke 11:9-10. It says “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
I’ve always tried to figure out how to get people to understand, including myself that Jesus doesn’t mean everything we ask for He will give us. But I do know that we have to ask in Jesus name for the things we need and that we want. But this verse is not talking about asking for a new car or even for a loved one to be healed of cancer. It’s not saying ask and you’ll get whatever you want.
As I read further in the chapter I understand that it is salvation he is talking about. Ask for salvation and it will be given to you; seek salvation and you will find it; knock and the door to salvation will be opened to you. For everyone who asks for salvation will receive it; he who seeks salvation will find it; and to him who knocks on my door the door to salvation will be opened.
WOW!! I’ve read that a hundred times and have always tried to figure out why it says “ask and it will be given to you” and I knew that it didn’t really mean material things or healing. But now I get it…….it means the more important thing of salvation!!
Sometimes I just need a good knock on my own head to get it!! Thank you Lord for salvation!! And thank you for your many, many blessings and how you do give us a lot of what we ask for and everything that we need. You are awesome!
