Have you ever flown on an airplane at night? When you are approaching the airport, the city is all lit up. I remember flying into Indianapolis one night and our plane took a small dip as it turned to one side to line up with the runway. I could see what seemed like the entire city lit up like a Christmas tree. It was beautiful!
Lights shine the prettiest when it is dark. I love sitting in the dark at Christmas time and looking at the lights on the tree, the mantel and the village all lit up. I love walking downtown in a city at night and just admiring the lights. At Disney World, one of the highlights of the evening is the light parade where dozens of floats glide by carrying characters that are decked out in costumes made of lights.
We are people who are just drawn to light. This world is full of darkness and sin. The devil loves darkness because evil is done in the dark. Darkness can be scary. But put some light in that darkness and evil begins to shudder because it is being exposed.
Matthew 5:14-16 says “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.”
How awesome it is that we can be the light in this dark world! As sin surrounds us and the devil tries to prowl around us in the darkness, we can show our light of Jesus to the world and light up the dark!
I thought my view was pretty from the airplane…….think about how beautiful the view is for Jesus……..seeing His followers light up this earth. Let’s do it! Let’s light up our corner of the world. Think how awesome this will be if we all just do our part! SHINE BRIGHT!
