When I think of MASKS, I think of New Orleans and Mardi Gras MASKS, Spiderman, Batman and the Lone Ranger. I think of Halloween and the MASKS children use to cover up their true identity while traveling door to door for candy. When I was little we used to have half MASKS that covered just your eyes and were available in all different colors. That’s all you needed at Halloween to cover up your face and people didn’t know, or would pretend like they didn’t know, who you were!
People also have MASKS of a different kind. MASKS disguised as makeup to hide the age spots on their face; toupees to hide baldness; botox to hide wrinkles; laughter to hide hurt; people-pleasing to hide insecurities; control to cover up fear.
MASKS hide a lot of things but sooner or later the MASKS will slip down or come off and the reality is unveiled.
We may hide behind MASKS to other people but God sees beneath the MASKS and deep into the heart.
I Samuel 16:7 states, “The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
There is no MASK that can cover the heart. The Bible says that whatever is in the heart spills out of the mouth. [Matthew 12:34]
I don’t know what you are covering up today or what you are covering it up with, but it’s time to put down the MASK and ask God to help you be comfortable with the real you, as you allow God to transform your sin into forgiveness and wash you white as snow. No MASK needed. Just a heart seeking the way of the Lord. God loves you as you are. Have courage. Step up ………. and UNMASK!!
