Do you ever wake up on a Monday morning and think “man I wish I didn’t have to get up and go to work today?”
I was doing some studying in the book of Joshua recently. Talk about a guy who probably didn’t want to get up and go to work? !!!
His co-workers were whiney.
He had a lot of responsibility getting those Israelites to the promised land.
He had to do a lot of traveling. His territory was huge. His workplace covered the desert from Lebanon, the great Euphrates river, to the Great Sea on the west; all the Hittite land. And who knows where else. He didn’t have GPS devices like we have now.
The work environment was hot and dry and sticky. I’m sure he got hungry and thirsty and there were no vending machines handy.
He was on his feet all day with no good insoles or ergonomically correct mats to stand on.
But he did have a Great Boss!! God led him all the way. He promised him in Joshua 1:5 “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God also encouraged him. “Be strong and courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.”
The God of Joshua is the same God today. He encourages us to be strong and courageous in the workplace. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us.
We may work in an air-conditioned office or on a scorching hot rooftop.
We may drive around in a car or walk until our legs ache.
Our work space may be a 7×7 cubicle or a massive warehouse.
Our co-workers may be rude or they may be our best friends.
Whatever the circumstances, God is telling us the same thing – “Be strong. Be courageous. I will never leave you. I will be with you wherever you go.”
We can do it! We can get out of bed and be thankful for our work environment and our jobs and our work place and our co-workers because God is with us through it all. No matter if you work in a factory, an office, a school or at your home, today is the day to be courageous! Don’t be ashamed of God.
Place a Bible verse in your work space. Lay your Bible in your office. Wear a piece of jewelry or something that shows your faith. Be kind. Be gentle. Be forgiving.
Show the world who’s Boss…………..the King of Kings!
Wow! Wish I would have read this YESTERDAY!!! But still applies today of course. Great concept to keep in mind…. 🙂
