Today I thought I would share five fun things to do with your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, or neighbor kids that cost little to no money. As fall breaks and holiday breaks roll around, it’s always fun to try and find new things to do with your kiddos.
1. Make an animal friendly tree. You can string apples, bananas, pears and berries on twine and drape around an outdoor bush; put peanut butter on a pinecone and roll in bird seed and hang from limbs; string popcorn and cranberries to make garland to hang from the tree. Hang dehydrated fruit slices from branches. It’s best to use twine or a material that will decompose over time to string your food if possible. Our girls loved doing this when they were younger.
2. Have a scavenger hunt. Prepare a list of items for the kids to locate both inside and outside. Ideas: toys that can be found only at the bottom of their toy box; a four-leaf clover (that will keep them busy for a while ); a rock the shape of a heart; something purple.
3. Fill empty water bottles 1/2 way up with gravel or sand and place a ping pong ball on top. Line up 5 bottles on a table outside and have the kids use their Nerf guns to knock the ping pong balls off the water bottles.
4. Create an obstacle course with buckets, trash cans, cones, flower pots, etc. and have the kids run as fast as they can around each item or ride a tricycle, keeping time to determine a winner OR better yet, set up two obstacle courses.
5. Create cards from construction paper or paint by number pictures to drop at the local nursing homes to make a difference in the lives of the residents.
Bonus Tip: Pull out the old board games and enjoy Monopoly, Uno or Trouble. I promise it will bring some smiles and laughter. And maybe a bit of frustration, too. hahahaha
Enjoy your time together!
