Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the plans in a man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
I am a planner. I am an organizer. I like lists. I like marking things off of my to-do lists. I’ve been known to write something on my list that I’ve already done so I can mark it off. Don’t laugh………you’ve done it, too!!
So when I make out my plan for the day or the week, I like things to go smoothly and right in line with my to-do list and my organizational plans. Sometimes if things get out of whack, I get agitated. A lot of the times though, I am good with just winging it and going with the flow. If my schedule gets messed up, I just think it’s God’s way of telling me to get back on track and do what is important to Him.
However……….I think to myself “I’ll do what’s important to God but I will still get my to-do list done because I have a lot of cleaning and organizing to do and IT’S ON THE LIST!!” I have to do it if it’s on the list.
Recently I was convicted after doing my devotional reading and reading the scripture quoted above. I realized I have plans every day. It’s in my blood. I love it. I love making a plan and accomplishing a goal. Just warms my heart to reach those goals – small, medium and large goals. But then I realized that I can plan every inch of my day and if God has something else for me to do that day, then He will make sure His purpose is completed. That doesn’t mean that we can’t plan and have our to-do lists. What it means to me is that I cannot make that planning, organizing and to-do list an idol. I can’t get to where I focus so much on crossing it off my list that I miss the things God has for me to do that day. And if I miss the things God has for me to do that day, then I miss the blessings from God for doing His will and fulfilling the purpose He has for me.
So as you go through your day and week and month and year and organize your plans and create your to-do lists and work towards your goals, just remember to seek God’s guidance and His will in your plans. And if your day gets interrupted and your to-do list doesn’t get everything marked off, then think about how your day was interrupted and see if you can figure out what God’s purpose was for you that day. Because He’s in control of our schedules – whether we want to admit it or not!
If only He would ask me first………………hahhahahha
