Today I found myself sitting in the kitchen with a dim light on eating a banana and relaxing.

That’s unusual on work days.

I am usually running around trying to fit in everything I want to get done before I run out the door to arrive at work right at 8:00 a.m. (or sometimes a few minutes after).  🙂

I usually get up around 5:30 and walk on the treadmill, read my Bible, shower and get ready for work.  Then I run around like a chicken with my head cut off throwing laundry in,  putting dinner in the crockpot, making the bed and grabbing a banana or yogurt for an eat-on-the-run breakfast.

I thought this morning would be different.   I was more organized and prepared.

I set my alarm for 5:30 to get the “planned” day started.  But when my internal clock woke me up, I looked at my alarm clock and it was after 6:00 a.m.!!  I had set my alarm for 5:30 PM.  Gee whiz!

Treadmill can wait.  Bible study can’t.

Even though I woke up late, I found that I was actually ready a few minutes earlier than expected.  So I grabbed a banana and sat down to eat.

What I found was that when I sat down in the quiet, dim kitchen, I noticed my travel wall.  I have pictures of the different places we have traveled over the years.   I’ve had that wall decorated for several years and although I see it every day, I forget to enjoy it.

So I sat.  Looking at every picture. Remembering the trips.  And thanking God for blessings to be able to do those trips.

Although today wasn’t a big “do something” day, it included my purpose of the Year of 55…..relax and find joy in every special moment.

What are you overlooking today that if you just take a few minutes can bring a newfound joy into your day?
