One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living.  We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today.   –  Dale Carnegie

Reading this quote made me think about how many times people say I will enjoy life and start “living” when:  I learn to drive; when I graduate high school; when I get out of college; when I get married; when I have kids; when my kids get in school; when my kids get in college; when my kids get out of college; when I pay off my house; when I get a different job.

If you keep on waiting, you will always have excuses and will continue to put off living and miss out on enjoying the roses blooming outside your very own window.

Point of Grace has a great song titled “HOW YOU LIVE.”

Part of Verse one:  “Wear your red dress.  Use your good dishes.  Make a big mess and make lots of wishes. Have what you want but want what you have.  Don’t spend your life looking back”.

Part of verse two:  “So go to the ballgames.  Go to the ballet. Go see your folks more than just on the holidays. Kiss all your children.  Dance with your wife.  Tell your husband you love him every night.”

“Wherever you are and wherever you’ve been.  Now is the time to begin.”

“It’s not who you knew and it’s not what you did.  It’s how you live.”

Don’t save the new dress you bought for “someday”.

Don’t save your grandma’s dishes for “one day”.

Don’t wait until everything is perfect and in place to start enjoying your life.  Start now.

What is it that you’ve been putting off doing?  What’s holding you back?  Don’t ask “what if”.  Don’t say “someday” or “one day” or “I’ll do it when….”

Take a step of faith and do it now.  Wear the red dress………..and some red lipstick, too!
