It’s March Madness!!  Whether you like basketball or not you have to know it’s NCAA tournament time.  People are talking about it around the office water cooler.  Television commercials are themed around the tournament.  Grocery store displays are centered around the basketball championships and how their products can enhance your basketball experience.

Each team has high hopes that they can take home the trophy.  Underdogs beat top seeds.  Fans come out in full college garb, faces painted, following their team all over the country to be a part of the hopeful championship victory.

We have the favorites in our household.  We stay up all hours and plan our chores around watching the games.  We fill out our brackets and compete against each other to see who has the most “basketball smarts”.  Sometimes those picks are based on the color of the uniforms or the creativity of the mascots.  But it’s all a gamble this time of year anyway!

Each team playing puts everything they have out there.  They play hard defense and the best offense possible.  Emotions run high – excitement for a victory and tears for a loss.

Several players have given God the glory when they have been interviewed.  It reminds me of I Corinthians 15:57 which says “Thanks be to God!  He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. ”

We can be excited during March Madness and cheer on our favorite team and enjoy the best month of the whole year of basketball.  But in the end, the only victory that matters is found through our Lord Jesus Christ.  We should get as excited about that victory as the one in the basketball tournament.

And I like to think that while God is up there in heaven taking care of everything in the whole wide  world, He may just take a little time and enjoy some March Madness Himself!
