Have you ever heard of the GOLDEN RULE? Do unto others as you would have them do to you? Sometimes people use that as a selfish verse when they want people to do something FOR them. But I think Jesus intended for it to be used to help OTHERS and then in turn to bless you for doing FOR OTHERS.
The verse known as the GOLDEN RULE is found in Matthew 7:12 – So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (NIV)
The Message Bible reads like this for Matthew 7;12 – Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get.
I love the way the Message Bible translates this verse. Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.
I challenge you to make today about OTHERS. Think about what makes you happy. Think about what you would like for others to do for you. Don’t get caught up in YOU and start wallowing around in self-pity because you think no one does anything for you. INSTEAD, go do those things for other people. Ask God to show you who needs to see a little bit of Jesus today, then go out and represent Him.
Do you like getting cards in the mail? Then ask God to show you who you can send a card to.
Do you like getting flowers? Then ask God who you should send flowers to.
Would you like for someone to make dinner FOR YOU one time? Then ask God to show you someone who is struggling in their life right now and go make dinner for them.
Would you like a day away from the hustle and bustle of everyday responsibilities? Then ask God to show you a friend who may be having the same thoughts and go to lunch and see a movie.
Have you ever thought about how nice it would be if someone did that idea of “paying for coffee for the person behind them in line at the drive-thru”? Then ask God to show you when and where you need to do that same thing.
Doing for others will bring a smile to your face and sunshine to your day.
I hope you enjoy your big, beautiful GOLDEN sunshiny day!
