Remember preparing for the spelling bee in elementary school?  You would study and study the spelling of words placing your own method of memory into place so you would be prepared when given your word during the Spelling Bee competition.

There were study groups and time set aside during school hours to prepare.  There were after-school meetings involving pizza and chocolate to encourage kids to be a part of the Spelling Bee Buzz.  It was a great way to encourage kids to learn to spell and to have fun in the process of learning.

The goal was to always be prepared with tools in your mind when called upon to spell the word of the minute!

The Bible tells us to always be prepared as well.  I Peter 3:15-16  says to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”

There’s a lot of pressure around being able to answer well in the Spelling Bee when called upon.  We did a lot of preparation for that Spelling Bee.  Let’s be prepared in the same way to answer when called upon as to the reason we have hope.

That reason we have hope is spelled J-E-S-U-S.  Jesus.
